Why Startups Won’t Look Like Startups Anymore

The Dave vs Startups cover image

Welcome to the Dave vs. Startups.

The whole "scrappy startup in a garage" image is about to become completely outdated.

A lot of people think of startups as these grit, grinding, hustling operations that are maybe rough around the edges.

Just take a look at the big name companies below:

But I think what you can expect with startups in the next few years is a total up-leveling of all of this stuff.

Especially in marketing, sales, and operations.

Here's what's actually going to happen with the power of AI:

I think the average startup is going to be much more what we think of as professional now as a base level when they launch.

  • Without having any capital support.

  • Without having venture capital behind them.

  • Without being a really innovative idea.

All thanks to AI.

Think about what this means for how we evaluate new companies.

Right now, if you see a startup with polished marketing and professional-looking operations, you might assume they raised a bunch of money or have some big backing.

But that assumption is about to be wrong most of the time.

I think even fun consumer products that are just two people working out of a basement will have an incredibly professional facade and operations when they launch.

The stereotype of the rough-around-the-edges entrepreneur grinding it out with makeshift everything is going to feel as outdated as using a flip phone.

Professional presentation is going to become the baseline expectation, not the exception.

That changes everything about how customers, investors, and competitors perceive new companies.

You won't be able to tell the difference between a bootstrapped two-person team and a well-funded company just by looking at their marketing or operations.

Because AI is changing how startups are built.

Building a business doesn’t require fame, but it sure helps!
The truth is, it’s hard work and it takes years of consistent effort, not quick viral wins. Focus on creating authentic, organic content and playing the long game.
